Kristi Mahoney lives outside of Boston, MA with her husband, son, daughter, and seven fur-family members. Kristi loves animals of all kinds, so it’s not surprising they’re a big part of her writing. She is the author of the picture books, Alpacas Make Terrible Librarians (winner of 2025 Children's Book Council Children's Favorite Award) and Owls Make Terrible Teachers (both by Gnome Road Publishing). She is represented by Elisa Houot of The Seymour Agency.
More About Kristi
I am a picture book writer, animal lover, and believe that life is better with a bit of laughter.
I’ve always gravitated towards a creative environment. After graduating from Syracuse University’s School of Communications, I spent almost a decade at a Boston advertising agency. Eventually, I left to spend more time with my family and it’s then I decided to pursue something very close to my heart – my own individual stories.
I currently live in Massachusetts with my husband, son, daughter, and seven fur-family members. My passion is writing picture books that mix animal facts with fun. I also cannot pass up a beautiful sunset, am never without a book, and have been known to rescue every bug that wanders into my house. My debut picture book, Alpacas Make Terrible Librarians (2024, Gnome Road Publishing) won a Children's Book Council (CBC) 2025 Children's Favorite Award. A sequel, Owls Make Terrible Teachers, released in 2026 (Gnome Road Publishing). I am represented by Elisa Houot at The Seymour Agency.
